What is Understanding Earth about?
Students will learn about the concept of time and chronology by creating personal and geologic timelines. They will understand that the term "old" is relative by discussing ages of things on Earth. A geologic timeline activity using cards along a 100-foot rope will show students the 4.6 billion year history of Earth. Finally, students will make personal timelines out of paper strips to represent the chronology of their own lives and explore linear versus cyclical concepts of time.
