This study evaluated the long-term (2 year) efficacy of sitagliptin as monotherapy or add-on therapy to metformin in treating type 2 diabetes. For patients receiving sitagliptin monotherapy (n=64), HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose, and 2-hour post-meal plasma glucose significantly decreased from baseline to 2 years, while beta-cell function measures improved.
