The Bono people are an Akan ethnic group located primarily in Ghana. They originated in Ancient Ghana and migrated south around the 12th century, establishing the Gyaaman kingdom. The Bono speak Bono Twi and had a matrilineal society centered around clans. They were historically known for gold mining and became wealthy trading gold and other goods. Bono culture influenced many aspects of wider Akan society such as naming systems, symbols, and dances.
