In 1935, three hierarchs from the Orthodox Church of Greece and the Ecumenical Patriarchate joined the Old Calendarist movement in Greece and established the first Holy Synod. Metropolitan Germanus of Demetrias became the president of the Synod and locum tenens of Athens. Assisted by two other metropolitans, Germanus consecrated four new bishops in Keratea of Attica, re-establishing the canonical Holy Synod of Greece since Archbishop Theocletus Menopoulos had been dismissed in 1923.
