The people of Egypt, such as farmers, had rights to own land, be free, and receive protection from the Pharaoh, but had no say in making laws and had to pay high taxes. Slaves, who did much of the hard work, had no rights or freedom and were forced to obey their owners who provided them with food, shelter and clothing.
