This study investigates the effects of 3-methyladenine (3-MA), an autophagy inhibitor, on enhancing the apoptosis induced by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in colon cancer cells. The combination of 3-MA and 5-FU significantly increased apoptotic cell death and altered molecular changes associated with apoptosis, suggesting that autophagy may act as a self-defense mechanism in 5-FU-treated colon cancer cells. The findings indicate that inhibiting autophagy could be a promising strategy to improve the efficacy of 5-FU
