This document discusses three calculations of optical Faraday rotation where a linearly polarized optical field propagates through a dielectric medium with a static magnetic field applied. It is shown that modeling the medium as quantum oscillators leads to the same result as the classical model of modeling the medium as classical oscillators, and that a simple argument based on circularly polarized fields driving transitions incorrectly predicts the Verdet constant.
