Angle modulation techniques such as frequency modulation (FM) and phase modulation (PM) vary the frequency or phase angle of the carrier signal based on the message signal. The class of such techniques is called angle modulation. In FM, the instantaneous frequency is varied while in PM the instantaneous phase is varied. Both FM and PM leave the amplitude of the carrier unchanged. Common applications of angle modulation include radio broadcasting using FM and communication systems.
