This study found increased levels of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) and sensory/nociceptor innervation in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) gut tissues. GLP-1R was also present in human dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed significantly higher numbers of GLP-1R and CGRP fibers in IBD colon biopsy samples compared to controls.
