What is Cobalt Corrole-Catalyzed Alkyne Hydration about?
Cobalt(III) corrole was found to be an effective catalyst for the hydration of terminal alkynes to ketones. With a low catalyst loading of 0.03-0.3 mol%, a wide range of alkynes were hydrated in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. Optimization studies identified sulfuric acid and methanol as suitable additives. The reaction was also shown to work on a gram scale, providing 90% yield with 300 turnovers of the catalyst. Cobalt corrole represents a new non-toxic catalyst for the atom-economic hydra
