Psychology in Latin America and the Dominican Republic has evolved unevenly. In the Dominican Republic, the teaching of psychology began in the 1940s at the University of Santo Domingo. In 1967, the psychology program was established at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University. In 1975, the Dominican Association of Psychology was founded. In Latin America, psychology emerged as a discipline.
