Water flooding is not suitable for gas cap reservoirs and is best used for under saturated reservoirs that have no support from gas caps or other geological features. It can effectively increase oil recovery in reservoirs that are not supported by gas or have other characteristics making them unsuitable for other enhanced oil recovery methods. However, water flooding is generally not effective at displacing gas or in reservoirs where gas provides support to the rock and trapped oil.
