This study investigates the relationship between classroom popularity hierarchy and the evolution of prosocial and aggressive popularity norms among 2,843 secondary school students. Findings indicate that a strong popularity hierarchy leads to increased aggressive norms and decreased prosocial norms over time, suggesting that competitive environments may promote aggression as a means to achieve popularity.
