What is New Benzimidazoles as COX-2 Inhibitors about?
This study presents the design and synthesis of new 2-(4-(methylsulfonyl) phenyl) benzimidazoles as selective COX-2 inhibitors, evaluated for their anti-inflammatory activity and ulcerogenic liability. Among the synthesized compounds, 11b exhibited the highest COX-2 inhibitory activity (IC50 = 0.10 mM) and a favorable safety profile (Ulcer Index = 0.83). The results indicate that these new compounds may offer improved therapeutic benefits compared to traditional NSAIDs.
