What is An Interactive Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization and Decision Making Procedure about?
In the modern-day design and decision-making activities, optimization plays a major role. Most studies in the past concentrated in finding the optimum corresponding to a single goal, say designing for minimum cost or maximum quality. To do so, the concerned procedure searches through possible feasible solutions and at the end identifies the best solution. Often, such a solution lacks any consideration of other equally important goals. Applied optimization went through a face-lift over the years, particularly with the availability of efficient multi-objective optimization algorithms which facilitate a designer or a decision maker to consider more than one conflicting goals simultaneously. Practice is all about differing ideologies and considerations and any design or decision making task must make a fine balance among them. Clearly, such a task has two main sub-tasks: (i) an optimization or a search activity to discover high-performing solutions trading-off different conflicting goals of design and (ii) a decision-making task to choose a single preferred solution from them.
