What is Understanding Longinus and the Sublime about?

Longinus was a literary critic from the first century AD whose true identity is unknown. He authored an important essay called "On the Sublime" which challenged the idea that writing is merely a technical skill that can be learned through rules. In the essay, Longinus explores how certain works of writing appear to transcend normal rules through their expressive power and genius of the author to achieve greatness. He argues that while rules are important, true art balances technical skills with inspiration
