The present study was performed to evaluate the response of hemodynamics in the arteries of base and surface of brain in patients with isolated hemodynamitally important arteriosclerotic stenoses and occlusions of ICA as response to hypercapnia and compression of CCA. 34 patients (aged 34-69 years), among them 11 women and 23 men were examined. All the patients were divided into 2 groups: 16 healthy patients (group A) and 18 patients with isolated stenoses more than 80% and occlusions of ICA (group B). Hemodynamics in the middle cerebral arteries (MCA) were studied by means of transcranial CDI. Moreover, hemodynamics in the vessels of the brain surface was examined by means of Radiothermal Imaging (RTI). Hypercapnia was achieved by inhalation of a gas mixture with increaed contents of CO2 (5%). The increase of peak systolic flow velocity (PV) during hypercapnia on the affected side (5,5 f 3,3%) was increasingly by less than on the non-affected one (12,6 f 2,4%, p < 0,02) comparing with results of group A. The response of radiobrightness radiation (RBR) to hypercapnia is characterised by marked asymmetry with an increase of RBR on the intacted side 2,7 higher comparing with the side
