About this document
Mohs Hardness Test Explained by ScribdTranslations is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The Mohs scale measures the hardness of materials from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest material (talc) and 10 is the hardest (diamond). It is done by scratching an unknown sample with minerals of known hardness until finding its position on the scale. It is not a linear scale, so the increments of hardness are not equal between each level. Although simple, it was the first hardness test and is still commonly used, although there are more precise methods.
