Sir Syed Ahmed Khan started the Aligarh Movement in the 19th century to encourage modern education among Muslims and improve their relations with the British after the 1857 rebellion. He established schools and Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College, now Aligarh Muslim University. The Movement aimed to help Muslims adapt to modern times through education while maintaining their Islamic identity and loyalty to Britain. It promoted secular learning and helped develop the Two-Nation Theory.
