Charles Dickens was a famous British author born in 1812. He wrote many novels that were published and became popular in the 1830s-1870s. Some of his most famous works include Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, and Great Expectations. Dickens had a difficult childhood working in a factory and later became a journalist and editor before achieving fame as a novelist. He traveled extensively, but also worked intensely and had health problems later in life before dying in 1870 at the age of 58.
