What is SYNDROMES: TURNER. PRADER-WILLI. NOONAN. PHP. OTHERS: Comparing Different Methods for Final Height Prediction in Patients with Turner’s Syndrome Treated with Growth Hormone about?

Introduction: Final height prediction is a useful instrument for evaluating the effect of growth hormone (GH) treatment in Turner's syndrome. A number of different methods can be used to predict final height, but there is no agreement as to which method is best for this purpose. Aims: To compare different methods of predicting final height in girls with Turner's syndrome treated with GH. Patients and Methods: Final height was predicted using a number of methods in 20 girls with Turner's syndrome who had been receiving GH for at least 2 years. The methods used were: 1) the Bayley-Pinneau method 1 ; 2) modified projected final height 2 ; 3) projected final height 3 ; and 4) the Turnerspecific prediction method 3 . Prediction error was calculated in eight girls who attained final height following treatment with GH. Student's test for matched samples was used for statistical analysis. In each case, the Bayley-Pinneau method was compared with the other three methods. Results: The mean final height predictions were: 146.1 ± 5.6 cm (Bayley-Pinneau); 148.7 ± 7.7 cm (modified projected final height) (p = 0.0022); 146.8 ± 6.8 cm (projected final height) (p = 0.2971); and 146.0 ± 6.2 cm (Turn
