About this document

El Imaginario Colonial. Filipinas by validez is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Between 1898 and 1902, the United States invaded and colonized the Philippines, suppressing an indigenous independence movement. Americans used photography as a tool of colonial conquest, taking photos to document their lives and the unfamiliar landscape. However, photographic images could not always be controlled and revealed controversial aspects of the war. This unit examines how photography was used and circulated in relation to American power in the colonial Philippines.
