What is Gastric Microbiome about?

Gastric cancer is the 6th most common cancer and 5th leading cause of cancer death in Ghana. While H. pylori infection is a major risk factor, only 1-3% of those infected develop gastric cancer. This study aims to evaluate the gastric microbiome composition in gastric cancer patients in Ghana to better understand key microorganisms involved in pathogenesis and improve management and treatment. Gastric biopsies will be obtained from cancer patients and controls to extract DNA and sequence the 16S rRNA gene.
