The study analyzed 41 randomized controlled trials with 88,523 participants to evaluate the effects of statins on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and urinary protein excretion. The results showed that compared to placebo, statin use was associated with a smaller reduction in eGFR and a greater reduction in urinary protein levels. The beneficial effects of statins on renal function appeared to be related to dosage and duration of therapy.
