1) Phonology is the study of sound systems of languages. Phonetics deals with the production of speech sounds by humans without prior language knowledge. 2) Phonemes are the basic units of speech sounds and can be segmental or supra-segmental. Segmental phonemes include vowels and consonants represented by the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). 3) Supra-segmental phonemes involve stress, pitch, juncture, and intonation which contribute to the tonal qualities of language.
