Idle client probing in IEEE 802.11 wireless involves an access point sending keepalive "idle client probe" messages every 10 seconds to connected clients as unicast NULL-DATA frames to verify the client is still active, with the client expected to respond with an ACK; if the client does not respond before the user idle timeout expires, its session will be changed to the disassociated state, and idle client probing can be disabled for power saving options.
