The Mid-Sea of Japan Earthquake of May 16, 1983 and numerical analysis of the tsunami by Masanori Hamada; Michihiro Kitahara; Katsuya Nakagawa; Tomoaki Ando is a Engineering article available to read on EtoBox.

What is The Mid-Sea of Japan Earthquake of May 16, 1983 and numerical analysis of the tsunami about?

To clarify the general characteristics of the 1983 Mid-Sea of Japan Earthquake and its induced tsunami, site investigation was carried out. The damage caused by subsoil liquefaction as well as the tsunami data such as wave height, run-up height on land, arrival time, etc., were examined. Furthermore a numerical simulation of the tsunami's generation and propagation by the finite difference method was done to study the source mechanism. From the results of the site investigation and the numerical analysis, it was found that the runup height was highest along the straight coastline neighbouring the earthquake fault and that the calculated arrival time was in good agreement with the observed values.
