United Bank Limited (UBL) was founded on November 7, 1959, by Agha Hasan Abedi and was nationalized by the Government of Pakistan in 1974. It became the second foreign bank to open branches in the UAE and is now a subsidiary of the Bestway Group after being sold by the Pakistan government in 2002. UBL was the first bank in Pakistan to establish an overseas branch, introduce Islamic banking, and offer e-banking facilities.
