The generator seal oil system uses oil to maintain high pressure seals between the generator shaft and stator casing. This prevents hydrogen gas from leaking out and mixing with air, which could cause combustion. The system uses a triple-circuit of air-oil, vacuum-oil, and hydrogen-oil to fully separate the air and hydrogen sides. Oil pumps and coolers maintain continuous circulation and pressure of saturated oil in each circuit to lubricate and seal the gaps.
