Ms. Stephenson requires independent reading outside the classroom (IROC) because research shows that increased reading leads to better reading skills. Students must read a minimum of two books per quarter at an appropriate reading level, turn in a reading verification (RV) each week, and complete a final project on one book to demonstrate their reading. They must keep a log of books read to track their independent reading.
