What is Progress of ASEAN Free Trade Area about?

The ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) has virtually been established through the Common Effective Preferential Tariff (CEPT) Scheme. Most products between ASEAN members now face tariffs between 0-5%. Newer members like Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam still have around 20% of products above this, but are making progress. ASEAN members are also working to eliminate non-tariff barriers and strengthen rules of origin to further liberalize trade and attract investors within the bloc.
