This thesis develops a methodology for seismic design of concrete gravity dams. Finite element analysis is conducted on a family of gravity dams using ANSYS to determine their dynamic properties. Empirical relationships are developed between natural period and dam height/base width. Design base shear is calculated using the horizontal acceleration spectrum and seismic weight. A method is proposed to spatially distribute the base shear over the dam height.
