The German Book Prize is awarded annually in October to the best new German language novel published in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, with a prize of €25,000 for the winner and €2,500 for each of the five shortlisted authors. Established in 2005, the prize aims to promote awareness of German literature and is presented during the Frankfurt Book Fair. Publishers can nominate up to two books, which must be available in stores before the shortlist announcement in September.
