Bcg vaccine ## Various toxicities: 14 case reports In a study conducted between January 2010 and January 2022, 14 patients aged 1-119 days including 12 boys and 2 girls, were described, who developed interstitial pneumonia, lymphadenitis, sepsis, myocarditis, muscle atrophy, epilepsy or disseminated tuberculosis following administration of BCG vaccine. All patients received BCG vaccine injection [Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine; routes and dosages not stated] against BCG within 24h of birth (7 patients) or within three months of birth (7 patients). However, all patients developed adverse reactions between the day of vaccination and after 2 months in the form of sepsis (n=2), sepsis and interstitial pneumonia (n=1) myocarditis (n=1), disseminated tuberculosis (n=1), suppurative lymphadenitis (n=3), epilepsy (n=1), interstitial pneumonia (n=4) and muscular dystrophy (n=1). Also, all patients developed infections in multiple organs, peripheral circulatory failure, respiratory failure, multiorgan failure, suppurative arthritis, pulmonary hemorrhage, vomiting, acute pulmonary congestion, west syndrome, granulocytopenia, bacterial infection or oedema.
