What is Ethics of Climate Responsibility and Eco-Anxiety about?

During a prior trip to California, I visited Joshua Tree in the Mojave Desert. The park is a moonscape with unusual rock formations, clusters of the plant, Yucca brevifolia, the park is named after, and seemingly not a whole lot else. But if one looks more closely, one discovers that, in fact, the area is teeming with life, with flora and fauna that have adapted to this harsh, arid environment. The Joshua tree itself has a deep and extensive root system, reaching down to over 30 feet into the ground, extracting whatever nutrition and moisture there are. While new plants grow from seeds, fresh stems can develop from complex underground rhizomes.Much of California is an environmental disaster: Massive freeways, cars, not a lot of public transportation, sprawling developments, lawns. But there are pockets of the state that model themselves on the ecology of the desert. They pride themselves on conserving water; cultivating native plants, succulents mostly; cacti with their flowers blooming in all the colors of the rainbow. In my next life I hope to be a Joshua tree. I am working on it as we speak.
