What is Miguel Hidalgo: Father of Mexican Independence about?

Miguel Hidalgo was a Catholic priest who led the Mexican Revolution against Spanish rule in 1810. He sought land redistribution, racial equality, and an end to Spanish colonialism. Hidalgo rang the church bell in Dolores to summon people to revolt and delivered a famous speech calling for these reforms. Thousands joined his rebel army. Although Hidalgo captured major cities early on, his forces were later defeated and he was captured and executed in 1811.
