JUNE 1962 been added, some entirely new, such as the discussion on sex chromatin determination; while other additions deal with diseases which have gained more extensive recognition since the first edition, such, for example, as pneumonocystis pneumonia and giant-cell hepatitis. Much of the text, however, remains unchanged, even where well-recognized advances have been made in the subject. In the discussion of fibrocystic disease of the pancreas there is no mention of the disturbances of the sweat electrolyte pattern so constantly present in this disease, nor any indication that the study of this pattern has very largely replaced the assay of the duodenal juice as a guide to diagnosis. To a limited degree deficiencies of this type are tempered by the fact that, even where the text remains unaltered, some further references have been added. However, these references are listed alphabetically under the names of the authors and are not divided under the subheadings used in the text, and this makes search for recent additions to the list of references rather tedious.
