1) This experiment determines the mass percentage of oxygen in potassium chlorate (KClO3) through decomposition. KClO3 is heated with manganese dioxide (MnO2) as a catalyst to produce oxygen gas (O2), potassium chloride (KCl), and heat. 2) The mass lost upon heating and decomposition is attributed solely to the oxygen gas produced.
