This thesis investigates the automatic load frequency control (ALFC) of multi-area power systems. It develops SIMULINK models for single-area, two-area, and three-area power systems. The models are simulated with and without secondary control loops. Parameters like controller gains and governor speeds are optimized using Bacteria Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFOA) which provides faster convergence than traditional methods.
