Lapu-Lapu was a ruler of Mactan Island in the 16th century. He is regarded as a hero in the Philippines for resisting Spanish colonization. In 1521, Lapu-Lapu and his soldiers defeated and killed Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan during the Battle of Mactan. This prevented the Spanish from occupying the Philippines for over 40 years. Very little is known about Lapu-Lapu
