What is Philosophical Views on Self-Consciousness about?

Descartes believed that self-identity depends on consciousness, as he famously concluded "I think, therefore I am." Locke argued that self-identity depends on having the same consciousness and memories over time. Hume believed the self was just a "bundle of perceptions" in constant flux. Kant agreed with Hume that identity is not found in self-consciousness, but rather in the transcendental ego or transcendental unity of apperception, which is the active synthesizing of our experiences.
