An Italian scholar and explorer from Venice who was born around 1491. He belonged to a rich family and was able to study astronomy, geography and cartography. He travelled together with the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan to the Indies to look for spices. During the expedition, he served as the log keeper. Thru the expedition, he was able to collect extensive data concerning the geography, climate, and of flora and fauna of places they visited.
