About this document
Structure of the Atom Explained by Prasun Shrivastav is a document available to read on EtoBox.
1. J.J. Thomson proposed that atoms consist of positive charges spread uniformly through a sphere with embedded negative electrons. 2. Rutherford designed an experiment where alpha particles were fired at a thin gold foil. Most passed through without deflection but some were deflected at very large angles. 3. This indicated that the positive charges in an atom are concentrated in a very small nucleus rather than spread uniformly throughout the atom as Thomson proposed.
