The heart is a muscular organ that constantly pumps blood throughout the body. It has four chambers - right and left atria and ventricles - that collect and pump blood to and from the lungs and body via valves to prevent backflow. Deoxygenated blood enters the right atrium and is pumped to the lungs, while oxygenated blood returns to the left atrium and is pumped into the aorta. Heart failure is defined as an ejection fraction below 40% with an enlarged left ventricle, and medications may prevent worsening
