Epicurianism and Stoicism are two philosophies from ancient Greece. [1] Epicurianism believed the universe was made of atoms and void, and knowledge came from senses. The goal was finding happiness through simple living, friendship, and avoiding pain. [2] Stoicism saw the universe as rational and humans as sharing reason. The objective was achieving tranquility by suppressing emotions. They believed all people were part of a universal brotherhood under natural law.
