Recent events which have happened to me regarding the award of my Knighthood have led me to try and stand back and look at the state of nursing today. Not that I needed an award to do that but the significance of the event made me think about my contribution to nursing. The art of detachment is that rare and precious quality that allows us all, whatever we do, to take a philosophical view of our lives and our contribution to our chosen field of work.
