Chemical characteristics and utilization of oil palm trunks were investigated. Oil palm trunk tissue mainly consists of vascular bundles and parenchyma cells which can be separated easily. Starch content was high in parenchyma cells. Xylose and glucose were the main sugar components in both tissues, indicating the polysaccharides consist of xylan, starch, and cellulose.
