This document describes a methodology for calculating the optimum size of a photovoltaic (PV) array for a hybrid wind/PV power system. Long-term wind speed and solar irradiance data were used to calculate probability density functions for each hour of a typical day and month. An algorithm was developed to match the power outputs of the wind turbine and PV module to a given load, and determine the optimum PV array size to minimize storage requirements and system cost while meeting the load energy needs.
