A Study of the Mechanism for the Effect of Heat Transfer Additives in an Absorption System by Wei Ji; Henrik Bjurström; Fredrik Setterwall is a Chemistry article available to read on EtoBox.

What is A Study of the Mechanism for the Effect of Heat Transfer Additives in an Absorption System about?

Marangoni convection in the absorber is the probable cause for the increase in capacity of absorption devices brought about by the addition of small quantities of heat transfer additives, i.e., certain surface-active agents. The mechanism for the instability may be absorption of water vapor, desorption of the surfactant, or both, as the surface tension of the solution is increased by both mass transfers. A linear stability analysis is presented for absorption in a laminar jet. The coupling of the Marangoni convection due to vapor absorption and that due to surfactant desorption leads to novel features. Instabilities may occur even if there is a strong adsorption of surfactant, provided the absorption Marangoni number exceeds a specific value \(\mathbf{M a}_{p}\). Q 1993 Academic Press, Inc.
