This document summarizes a research paper about designing a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) to microstrip transition operating in the X-band frequency range of 8-12 GHz. The transition uses a tapered line to transform the impedance between the SIW and 50-ohm microstrip line. Simulation results in HFSS show insertion loss below 0.6 dB and return loss less than 10 dB within the band. The transition was fabricated on Rogers 4350B substrate and measured on a vector network analyzer to validate the design.
